Years ago, I likened blogging to “a post office in the hedgerow”…from Little Women, if you know the story. Since 2015 or so, Instagram was my post office, a place to leave beauty and thoughts for others to find, but as it changed, I wanted to be there less and less. Ads, algorithms, corporate power and intrusiveness, and the too-muchness of it and many online places had me dreaming of an alternative. Hedgerow Post is what I’ve created in response to all of that. A private, peaceful place to share or simply enjoy a photo and few thoughts, or just thoughts. Perhaps also an alternative to blogs which can be a bother to comment on, or go here and there to find and keep up with.

No A-eye gathering up your images…no pestering to buy or upgrade or distract…just a quiet place to wander or express yourself. There is only me behind the scenes here, a woman who wanted to create a softer, off-the-beaten-track sort of place to gather. A tiny recurring fee (monthly or yearly) will hopefully keep any unpleasantness away, tho’ I won’t hesitate to wield my power as admin to protect the values of peace and kindness here, should the need arise…and help me to “keep the lights on” as they say.

My hope is that this Hedgerow will be both a comfort and a sort of protest, both needful in these times. It is brand new and especially quiet at the moment, but I believe it will grow as word spreads and we leave our posts there to be found. Soon it will be rich with birdsong and rosehips, nests and hazelnuts, notes and hand-stitched messages. When you join, I’ll be there on the other side with some tips to help you find your way around…tho’ I’ve made it as familiar as I could.
